What to Wear to Your Bachata Class
Are you ready to step onto the dance floor? Whether you’re joining us at BachaSuave for the first time or you're a seasoned dancer heading to our Rotkreuz or Zurich studio, one question always pops up: "What should I wear?"
In Bachata dance, your outfit is more than just a fashion statement - it’s about freedom of movement and confidence. Here is everything you need to know to dress for success.
Comfort is King and Queen
The most important thing to remember is that you need to feel comfortable, confident, and ready to move. At BachaSuave, we celebrate individual style. There is truly no "wrong" outfit! You’ll see dancers in:
Sporty looks: Leggings, joggers, and moisture-wicking tees.
Chic styles: Nice trousers, stylish tops, or flowing skirts.
The Pro-Tip: Ensure your clothes stay put. If you have to constantly pull up your pants or adjust a slipping strap while dancing, it distracts you from the rhythm. Choose an outfit that moves with you, not against you.
Freshness Matters
Bachata is an intimate couple dance. Because we share space and energy with our partners, hygiene is a key part of dance floor etiquette. To keep the vibes high and the air fresh:
Bring a backup: It’s always a good idea to bring a spare shirt to change into halfway through class.
The "Sweat Kit": Pack a small towel in your dance bag.
Refresh on us: If you’re coming straight from work to our Zurich or Rotkreuz locations, don’t worry! Our toilets are equipped with deodorant and perfume so you can freshen up before the music starts.
Finding the Perfect Footwear
Shoes are the most technical part of your Bachata outfit. While you can start in sneakers, the right shoes protect your joints and improve your technique.
To Heel or Not to Heel?
Many ladies prefer dancing in heels to feel more confident and elegant. Heels also make spinning much smoother. However, unlike Salsa, Bachata dance often requires you to be extra grounded. You need a stable stand because the movement works deeply "into the floor."
Protect Your Knees
Standard street shoes can "grip" the floor too much, which puts stress on your knees during turns. We recommend shoes with a specialized sole (suede or smooth leather).
